During the "13th Five-Year Plan" (2016 to 2020), Guangzhou Port completed a grain throughput of 26.86 million tons, ranking first in China's mainland grain throughput, becoming the largest grain unloading and storage base in South China . From January to April 2021, the Guangzhou Port Group's grain operations were 7.302 million tons, an increase of 60% year-on-year, of which 6.483 million tons of foreign trade were completed, an increase of 130.8% year-on-year.

At present, Guangzhou Port has formed Xinsha and Xingang on the east bank of the Pearl River, Nansha Grain Terminal on the west bank of the Pearl River, and Maoming Guanggang on the west bank of the Pearl River. layout. The above-mentioned terminal operations include wheat, barley, sorghum, soybeans, corn, meal, peas, etc.

According to the strategic deployment for the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the plan for the construction of an international shipping center in Guangzhou, Guangzhou Port has successively invested in the construction of two Xinsha Phase II professional grain terminals with 100,000-ton berths and a warehouse capacity of 410,000 tons. The second phase of the Nansha grain terminal silo project is expected to be completed and put into use in 2021; the expansion project of two 100,000-tonne, one 40,000-tonne, and five 5,000-ton berths in Nansha Grain and General Wharf is expected to be completed in 2021. It will be put into operation in 2022.

By then, Guangzhou Port will have 21 10,000-ton-class grain and general-purpose berths. By the end of the "14th Five-Year Plan" (2021-2025), Guangzhou Port will have a grain throughput of more than 35 million tons and a storage capacity. Up to 3.6 million tons, guaranteeing regional food supply.

With the supporting infrastructure for grain loading and unloading, warehousing and logistics, Guangzhou Port continues to strengthen cooperation with grain industry chain enterprises around the port to ensure the raw material needs of end-use grain enterprises and ensure a smooth supply chain for grain users. At the same time, it gathers the elements of industrial development and forms an industrial chain development pattern from warehousing and logistics to production and processing with "qiangang and back factories" and "qiangang and back warehouses" to provide guarantee for the stable food supply of residents. At the same time, with the continuous development of Guangzhou Port’s port layout and capacity building, Guangzhou Port has further optimized its transportation structure, intensified the development of "water-water combined transportation" and "water-rail combined transportation", and promoted the coverage of the hinterland to extend to more inland areas.

In response to the new crown pneumonia epidemic, Guangzhou Port has implemented forward and closed management of epidemic prevention "gates" for foreign trade grain ships to strictly prevent overseas imports and ensure stable transportation and supply of grain. Relying on the advantages of important nodes in the port's supply chain and logistics channels, more than 10 million tons of corn, wheat, soybeans, barley, sorghum, and raw sugar are flown across the ocean from the place of production each year, and are unloaded and transported through various grain operation companies in Guangzhou Port. The processing plant flows into the supply chain, and then flows to the people's table.
